Dr. Lawrence J. Singerman completed his retinal training at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute, Johns Hopkins University, and founded Retina Associates of Cleveland, a group practice now including 8 other retinal specialists and 100 employees in 9 offices.

In 1977, he founded the Macula Society, an international association of leading investigators and clinicians in retinal diseases. He has been continuously re-elected as the Society’s Executive Secretary. He received the Society’s J. Donald M. Gass Medal for Outstanding Contributions in the Study of Macular Diseases and Arnall Patz Medal for outstanding contributions in the study of retinal vascular diseases.

He has been principal investigator in over 100 clinical research studies of treatments for retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and other vitreoretinal diseases.

He is clinical professor of ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals, Cleveland, and at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami. He has edited 3 textbooks, authored over 300 publications, and organized more than 80 national and international courses and symposia. He belongs to over 40 professional organizations and has been named 22 consecutive times to Best Doctors in America.

He was Vice Chair of the Council of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and received the Academy’s Life Achievement Award. He was president of the Ohio and Cleveland Ophthalmological Societies and the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland. He and his wife, Margaret, have two grown children and three grandchildren.
