Filippo Simona received his medical degree from Zurich University in 1980 and then completed his residency at the Geneva and Bern Eye Clinic. In 1994, he founded LaserVis, the Refractive Surgery Centre in Locarno, Switzerland, where he had his private practice. He currently is President of the Swiss Ophthalmic Society and Past President of the Swiss Eye Surgery Academy.

Dr. Simona has a special interest in optics of the refractive surgery and of the diffractive and accomodative intraocular lenses. His current basic science and clinical research interests encompass the possibility to apply the knowledge of the astrophysical solution about optic to the optic of the human eye. He works regularly with the Solar Research Institute of Locarno, property of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and with the University Eye Clinic « Bambin Gesù » of Rome. He is first investigator of Research Projects about the clinical results of new types of accomodative intraocular lenses. He is member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
