Prof Mario R Romano MD PhD is actually Full Professor at Humanitas University. He enriched his training in Ophthalmology with clinical and research activities in highly recognised international centres. In particular, he completed a research fellowship in vitreo-retinal diseases at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA and a surgical vitreo-retinal fellowship at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, UK. He also completed his PhD in Pharmacology and Molecular Oncology in 2009. In addition to clinical and surgical activity, Prof Romano is devoted to clinical research in the field of retinal diseases and surgical field. He is actually PI for research project founded by competitive grant government (Minister of Health and Research) and by private companies. His research projects account for endo-tamponade, retinal detachment, intraocular temperature, phaco and vitrectomy machine, intraocular inflammation, induced-pluripotent stem cell, regenerative medicine, degenerative ocular disease including age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He developed the web platform eLOS (e-learning ocular surgery), which was left to European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO), of which he remained scientific director.
