He was graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine and received his ophthalmology training at the same institution. He was then fellow in ocular oncology at Wills Eye Hospital, Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA under Jerry A. Shields.
His main clinical activity spans over all ophthalmic neoplasia including orbital, eyelid, conjunctival and intraocular tumors. His research is focused on uveal melanoma and retinoblastoma. He has co-authored over 210 international and 40 national publications. He also published 14 book chapters.
He is an active member of many professional international societies and serves as an editorial board member or as a reviewer in 18 international scientific journals.
