Graduated at Medical Faculty of Ljubljana in 1983 and was awarded PhD at St Thomas’ Hospital, University of London in 1995.
He is full professor of ophthalmology and the Chair of Ophthalmology at Medical Faculty, University of Ljubljana. Field of clinical work and research: neuroophthalmology and genetic eye diseases, cataractogenesis, advanced cataract surgery, stem cell research.
He co-organized EUNOS, ISCEV, EVER and winter ESCRS meetings in Slovenia.
He co-authored over 100 papers in peer reviewed journals and mentored 12 PhD students.
From 2009-2010 he was president of European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO).
In 2013, he was a recipient of Peter Eustace Medal for excellence in education in European ophthalmology.
He is currently chairman of Education Committe of the SOE and mentor of SOE YO programme.
