Matteo Forlini was born in Ravenna (Italy) on 16th March 1981.

He graduated in Medicine at Bologna University (Italy) in 2007 with maximum score (110/110 cum laude), and he completed Ophthalmology Residency at University of Modena (Italy) in March 2012 with maximum score (110/110 cum laude).

Since 2012 to 2015 he worked at University Hospital in Modena as Retinal specialist and Vitreoretinal surgeon.

In 2013 he attended “European Vitreo-Retinal Training School EVRTS” in Bremen (Germany) improving vitreoretinal surgical skills, in addition to observership periods at Ophthalmology Departments abroad, (Weill Cornell Medical College Presbyterian Hospital in New York, IMO Instituto de microcirugìa ocular in Barcelona, Klinikum Frankfurt Hochst in Frankfurt, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital in Mumbai).

Since 2015 to 2018 he worked at University Hospital in Parma as Retinal Specialist and Vitreoretinal surgeon.

Since 2019 he is Vitreoretinal Consultant at San Marino Hospital (Republic of San Marino).

He is author of many scientific articles published on international peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, especially about vitreo-retinal surgery and ocular traumatology.

He is active member of many international scientific societies: EURETINA, ESCRS, Vit-Buckle Society (VBS), American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), Club Vit Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Also he is Board Member of European VitreoRetinal Society (EVRS), Mediterrenean Retina Society, and MEDITERRETINA Club.

Since 2015 he is Editorial Board Member of Ophthalmology Journal.

Since 2016 he is in ESASO faculty (European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology) as teacher and surgical instructor in Lugano (Switzerland).

 

In 2016 he has been awarded with OPHTEC’s ‘Artisan Ambassador Award 2016’ in Copenhagen (Denmark). He received the Award because of the way he uses the Artisan Aphakia lens in complex surgery and traumatology.

In 2017 he received SOI-SOE LECTURE 2017 AWARD during 97’ SOI National Congress (Italian Society of Ophthalmology) in Rome (Italy).

Since 2018 he is teacher and surgical instructor at Thessaloniki International Vitreo-Retinal Summer School (TVRS) in Thessaloniki (Greece).

In 2019 he received “ASRS Honor Award” based on his scientific contributions to the ASRS (American Society of Retina Specialists), during the 37th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists in Chicago (USA).

 

In 2019 he won “BEST OF SHOW” Video Award at American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Annual Meeting in San Francisco (USA).

Since 2019 he is in the commission for evaluation at Videocompetition “Cesare and Maurizio Quintieri Award” SOI (Italian Society of Ophthalmology).

 

Since 2020 he is examiner at European Board of Ophthalmology Diploma (EBOD) Examination (responsibility of the Education Committee of the EBO) in Paris (France) and in Berlin (Germany).

Since 2020 he is teacher and surgical instructor at European Vitreo-Retinal Training School (EVRTS) in Bremen (Germany).

In 2020 he won “IMAGE OF THE YEAR 2020” Award at 38th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS Virtual Meeting).

In 2020 he won “ASRS Film Festival Rhett Buckler Award” at 38th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS Virtual Meeting).

 

In 2020 he won EURETINA 1st Place Award (BEST OF SHOW) in the Video Competition at EURETINA 2020 Virtual Meeting.

In 2020 he is LEAD GUEST EDITOR of the SPECIAL ISSUE “Macular Surgery: Classification, Management and Surgical Techniques” on Journal of Ophthalmology.

In 2021 he is LEAD GUEST EDITOR of the SPECIAL ISSUE “Different Methods of Secondary IOL Implantation” on Journal of Ophthalmology.

Since 2022 he is teacher and surgical instructor at University Cattolica Fondazione Policlinico Gemelli (Rome) – “Master in VItreoretinal Sugery”.
