His team was the first to describe systemic complement activation in patients with age-related macular degeneration. He is currently the co-chair of the UK Medical Retina Group, co-chair of the UK Amsler Club, Deputy President of the FAN Club, member of the Scientific Committee and Research Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and EURETINA respectively.

He is the Editor of Focus and Associated Editor of Eye, both official journals of the Royal College. He has published over 100 publications with 3 books and 18 book chapters. His main research interests are biomarkers of macular diseases, matrix biology, retinal imaging and vascular stem cell therapy.
