Gregor S. Reiter received his medical degree (MD) from the Medical University of Vienna, Austria and his Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in Social Anthropology from the University of Vienna. He received his PhD from the Medical University of Vienna in 2021 for his work on the investigation of retinal biomarkers in non-neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

He is employed at the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry at the Medical University of Vienna (Chair: Prof. Dr. Ursula Schmidt-Erfurth) and acts as medical supervisor for the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Retina, which cooperates with Heidelberg Engineering for the development of novel AI algorithms and their implementation into clinical practice.

His main research interests include quantification of biomarkers in the progression of retinal diseases using artificial intelligence algorithms, as well as the practical use of such AI algorithms in the clinical routine to increase treatment effectiveness. He also focuses on the natural progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and the development of novel biomarkers for disease progression and prediction.

As an investigator, he took part in many multicenter RCTs and is a member of national and international ophthalmological societies (Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA), …). He gave a great number of congress presentations and invited talks and acts as a reviewer for several medical journals in the field of ophthalmology.
