Elisabetta Pilotto graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padova (Italy) where she was also certified in Ophthalmology. She did an international fellowship at the LuEsther T. Mertz Retinal Research Center at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital (New York, NY) under the supervision of Prof. Laurence Yannuzzi. She performed her Retina Fellowship training at the Institute of Ophthalmology of the University of Padova.
She was Board certified by the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO). Member of the EuLDP (European Leadership Development Program) class 2015-2017, she graduated in June 2017.

Since September 2001, she is full time Retina Specialist in the staff of the Department of Ophthalmology of the University of Padova, where she is currently in charge of the Medical Retina Service, which includes the Imaging Service and the Electrophysiology Lab.

She is Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology of the University of Padova since 2010. She is faculty member of the Venice Ophthalmology Summer School (VOSS), an European event culturally sponsored by the European Society of Ophthalmology, dedicated to young ophthalmologists, since 2013. She serves as examiner at the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) certification exam since 2013.

She is Principal Investigator of the Centre for Clinical Trials of the European EVICRnet and in charge of the International Microperimetry and Retina Reading Center, based in Padova. She is currently principal and/or co-investigator in many sponsored and investigator driven clinical trials on both age related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema, from phase 2 to phase 4. She is elective member of the Macula Society and active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the European Ocular Oncology Group (OOG), the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA) and the Italian Society of Ophthalmology. She is member of the Board of the Italian Retina Society (SIR).

Her main fields of interest include retinochoroidal diseases, particularly age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, ocular oncology. She has also particularly worked on new diagnostic techniques as microperimetry, fundus autofluorescence, indocyanine green angiography, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography. She has contributed to the knowledge of the effects of different treatment modalities (radiation, thermotherapy, threshold and subthreshold photocoagulation, intraocular drugs) on retinal and choroidal circulation and on retinal function. She has organized courses on these topics at local and international level.

She has published more than 70 scientific papers and multiple book chapters and she has been an invited speaker in many national and international meetings.
